1. Go to “My Computers”, Open your system drive/disk i.e. “C” where Windows is installed, then click windows > system 32 >drivers > etc. Once you get to the “etc” folder, you will see some files but right click on the file named “hosts” and select open with “Notepad”.

2. If you are lazy and can’t go through the long process in step 1, then bring out the Run window by pressing Win key+R on your Window Pc keyboard. Once the window opens, paste C://windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts into the box and press enter then open it with notepad.

3. Scroll down then copy and paste the code below into the blank space. After that, click file on the top of the Notepad window, then click on save.

Mine said access denied also. I had to right click the hosts file again. Go to properties, then security and I clicked on edit. Then click on the username you logged in under and click full control and apply. Then start over and save the file.

Thanks for your help but the ad is still there :-(

@dapdog, if you follow the explanation in this post, the hotspot shield ad will no longer show but a blank ad space will still be on your browser.

Thanks for this, i use Ad Block Plus and it works great (firefox) We need to find a way to use hotspot shield elite somehow, i remeber one program that resets trail period for programs but this one uses internet identification for it so no can do

Not working for newer versions, it seems they ignore the HOSTS file...the program has its own driver which controls network connections for the system...
But AdBlock Plus may help. For Firefox and Chrome...
