MTN Nigeria Communications Limited is the biggest mobile operator in Nigeria, with over 45 million subscribers.
Recently they introduced a new feature to their network called ‘Purchase Data Plan for F&F’ i.e. subscribers can now purchase a data plan for their friends’ and family on MTN network.
Some subscribers already know how to do this. I’m sharing this simple tutorial with those who don’t know how to do it.

To purchase a data plan for a friend or family on MTN network, you need to activate this feature on your MTN line, by sending ‘reg’ to ‘131’ via sms. After, dial *131*2*3# on your phone for list of data plans you can purchase. Presently only seven plans are available, and they are:
- The 10MB plan cost N100, validity period is 1-day. Dial *131*2*3*1# to activate it directly for a friend or family.
- The 25MB plan cost N400, validity period is 1-week. Dial *131*2*3*2# to activate it directly for a friend or family.
- The 100MB plan cost N1000, validity period is 1-month. Dial *131*2*3*3# to activate it directly for a friend or family.
- The 250MB plan cost N1300, validity period is 1-month. Dial *131*2*3*4*1# to activate it directly for a friend or family.
- The 500MB plan cost N2000, validity period is 1-month. Dial *131*2*3*4*2# to activate it directly for a friend or family.
- The 1GB plan cost N3500, validity period is 1-month. Dial *131*2*3*4*3# to activate it directly for a friend or family.
- The 5GB plan cost N8000, validity period is 1-month. Dial *131*2*3*4*4# to activate it directly for a friend or family.

Point of correction, MTN doesn't have 4.5GB data plan, but 5GB data plan which is 8000.
From the codes you listed here for tranferring data to friends and family as the case maybe: how does a certainfriend/family get the data assuming I intend to use the code *131*2*3*4*2# to transfer 500MB to a friend/family? Since the code does not include the family member's phone number...please explain more.
