How to Use Airtel Unlimited BlackBerry Plans on PC & Mobile Devices

In my recent article, I posted all the activation codes and pricing of Airtel Nigeria BlackBerry Internet Subscription.

Airtel is the best network to use for browsing as long as I’m concerned, apart from the fact that they have the widest 3g coverage, any Airtel sim with Blackberry Internet Subscription can be used on PC. Unlike other service providers that don’t work like that.

The reason why BlackBerry subscriptions are being used on non-Blackberry devices is because of its cost. Using Blackberry subscription on modems for instance is cheaper to using the normal plans which are quite expensive. 1 Gigabyte of data on Airtel can cost around N3,000, but you can get the 1gb of the same data for N1,200 by using BlackBerry Subscription. You don’t necessarily need a blackberry device to subscribe for any of the plans of your choice.

Recently, Airtel introduced some new plans known as Airtel UNLIMITED BB Plans. The Unlimited plans don’t work on PC unlike the former plans. After subscribing for any of the unlimited plans, if you try using the sim on your modem or any non-blackberry devices, it won’t connect, but if you return it back into your BlackBerry device, it will start working again.

Today, I want to unleash the trick to make Airtel Blackberry UNLIMITED work on pc and other mobile devices without any ado, you have to load 100 naira after subscribing then dial *141*712*11# you will be given 10MB of data and that will activate the Blackberry plan to work on your non blackberry devices such as your PC and mobile devices.

How to Deactivate Airtel Nigeria Blackberry Subscription

Are you using Airtel on your Blackberry? If yes, you will understand that all Airtel Blackberry plans have data caps. Even the so called unlimited plan has data cap.

Deactivate Airtel BlackBerry Subscription

A user that downloads very well can consume Airtel weekly and or monthly data plan before its validity period. If you subscribe after consuming the allotted data size before its validity period, you will receive a message back in return that ‘Dear subscriber, your request was not successful because you cannot migrate while you still have an active service.’

For your request to be successful, you have to deactivate the existing Blackberry plan and then re-subscribe again. To deactivate it, send DEACTIVATE to 440 via sms.

Airtel Nigeria Updated BlackBerry Subscription Plans & Activation Codes

Airtel have many Blackberry plans to enable BB users enjoy their devices. Depending on what you have in your pocket, there is daily, weekly and monthly plans. You can choose between the BlackBerry Complete/BlackBerry Social plans depending on your needs.

Airtel BlackBerry Subscription Plans and Prices

The BlackBerry complete plan enable users have access to BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), BlackBerry Email and Instant Messaging with Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger. Included is full access to browse the internet, BlackBerry App World, Social Networking such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace and one Web-based Email Account such as Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail. While the BlackBerry social plan as it name implies is for users who wish to socialize and be connected to Facebook and Twitter, and also browse the internet. With BlackBerry social plan, users can also get BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), BlackBerry Email, BlackBerry App World and Instant Messaging.

How to Print Directly from BlackBerry® SmartPhones

Recently, I shared a post on how to print from Android devices, but now, here is another post with detailed information on how BlackBerry® users can print from their devices as well.

Print Directly From BlackBerry

The BlackBerry smartphones does not offer a native printing function, but with the help of developers, BlackBerry users can print from their devices without much hassle. The application that does the job is called Remote Print. This app is not the only BlackBerry app that enables printing, it’s just that it has been tested and proved to be working correctly.

Remote Print for BlackBerry isn’t free, it cost $4.99. The application is available on BlackBerry App World. This app can print any file from your BlackBerry device including emails, photos, excel, word, PDF, memos, address contacts, all office documents and more.

Install Remote Print on your BlackBerry and the companion PC Suite on your computer. Select the document you want to print from your BlackBerry and send it to your computer or print it directly. Remote Print will connect to the host computer, which will in turn connect to the printer to print the files.

Bonus: Alternative to Remote Print

Cortado Basic Print is another app that enables printing from your BlackBerry device, it works with Bluetooth printer. This app too isn’t free, but it has a no-cost trial period during which you can evaluate the full versions.

Download and set up Cortado on your BlackBerry. Connect to any Bluetooth-enabled printer, or use a Bluetooth adapter if the printer does not have Bluetooth capability. Select the document you want to print and send it directly to the printer using the application. Choosing this solution will require a monthly service fee. Cortado will add a Print button to your BlackBerry device file menu after installation.

BlackBerry Unveils Z10 and Q10 | Features | Specs | Images

The long awaited BlackBerry 10 software and Z10 touchscreen smartphone has been finally launched by BlackBerry, the name by which Research In Motion now calls itself. The Z10 device comes in a full touchscreen display and it is the first phone to run the BB 10 mobile OS. The company also revealed the BB Q10 smartphone that has the trademark BlackBerry keyboard.

BlackBerry-Z10-Smartphone
BlackBerry Z10 is an all touch device with a 4.2 inch screen

BlackBerry-Q10-Smartphone
BlackBerry Q10 has a QWERTY keyboard

BlackBerry is betting that Z10 and Q10 will help the company capture a market dominated by Samsung and Apple. The Z10 & Q10 BB devices both run on the BB 10 OS, but while Z10 is a 4.2 inch touch-screen phone with a resolution of 1,280 x 768, Q10 has a QWERTY keyboard.

According to the company, both BlackBerry Q10 and Z10 have the ability to flick words while typing, in effect translating into an experience that allows writing without typing.

It always has a cinematic experience, said Vivek Bharadwaj, head of software for BlackBerry.

The glass is designed exclusively for this device: it is supposedly thinner but stronger than plastic. The device aggregates information intuitively; it recognises and pulls up all the connections into the contacts, like the last email, last meeting, last twitter post ... All of this without leaving the hub.

Apps like Facebook have been completely integrated with the BlackBerry 10 hub. All emails and notifications from such applications as Twitter and Facebook go to the BlackBerry Hub, a nerve center accessible with a finger swipe even if you have another application open. One can peek into it and open an email, or return to the previous application without opening the email.

How to Use Glo BIS to Browse on Computer | PC

On our How To Use MTN BIS on PC page, some of this blog readers contacted me online via this blog Contact Form, requesting for how they can also use Glo BIS on PC. So today, I want to share a simple tutorial on how I was able to use my Glo BIS on my BlackBerry and at the same time use it on my PC.

Browse-Free-on-Computer-and-PC-Using-Glo-BIS

Nigerian ISP data plans specially made for PC’s are just too expensive to use, but in the case of BlackBerry Internet Service plan, they are relatively cheaper than the normal data plans. So Nigerians have been devising various means to use BIS meant for BlackBerry devices on PC, since BlackBerry is commonly used among Nigerians and the subscription price is relatively cheaper than normal data plans.

In the past, MTN and Airtel BIS are the only one working on PC, but now, Glo BIS too is now working, though Glo BIS data bundle is limited unlike MTN  BIS that has unlimited data bundle, but it is better than Airtel BIS. Glo weekly data plan bundle gives you 700MB while Glo monthly data plan bundle gives you 3GB.

Steps to Start Using Glo BIS on PC

Insert the Glo sim with BIS into your Modem. But in case you are using another service provider modem and you are yet to unlock it, go to Modem Unlocker Software page to get the unlocking software to unlock it yourself. If you are using huawei E303 series and other modems that are stubborn to unlock, Get the Modem Unlock Code Here.
If you don’t have a modem, go to How to Use Your BlackBerry Phone as Modem page to learn how it can be done.
  • First subscribe for any Glo BIS plan of your choice. Go to Glo BlackBerry Complete Plans page for more info about Glo BIS price, you can go for the weekly (N400) or monthly (N1,400) plan.
  • After Subscription, go to your BlackBerry Desktop Manager or modem dashboard and then add a new profile using the information below:
    Profile Name : Glo BIS
    APN : blackberry.net

You can change the display of the 'signal strength' on your screen to read in real numbers. While at the home screen, hold down the ALT key while you type NMLL. The bars should change to numbers. For the 'signal strength', if you are in the 100 area (that means -100 dBm), you will be transmitting at maximum power. Anything at -90 to -50 is a very good signal.

On top of the AutoText there are also some short codes for common device information that you can type into SMS or email messages that will return a value:
• myver - Device Model/Version
• mypin - Device PIN
• LD - Local Date
• LT - Local Time

Keep it in mind that the BlackBerry shortcuts shared on this page are the default shortcuts and it should work for most BlackBerry devices.

How to Use Your BlackBerry® Phone as Modem on PC

BlackBerry smartphones are awesome and they are imbedded with so many features. Out of the outrageous features imbedded in BlackBerry smartphones, I published a post on how BlackBerry smartphone users can print directly from their device with no hassle involved. So today, I want to share another post on how BlackBerry smartphone users can use their black berry device as a modem.

This post will focus on how Nigerians can use their BlackBerry smartphones as modem. Non-Nigerians are not left out, as this post will show them how they can also use their BlackBerry devices as modem, but you will sort out the APN aspect yourself.

Check: How to Use Android Phone as Modem

Using your BlackBerry device as modem won’t cause you any havoc. From experience, you cannot use your BlackBerry® Internet Service (BIS) plan except Airtel BIS. If you are using another network aside from Airtel, you BIS might not work, so you have to subscribe to a normal data plan.

Steps to Use Your BlackBerry As Modem

1. First and foremost, you have to install BlackBerry® Desktop Manager on your PC. You can get this software from the CD pack that came with your device. But in case you purchase a fairly used or second hand BlackBerry® device or you have misplaced the CD that came with your device, you can download the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager from here

2. After proper installation of the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager on your PC, launch the application and click on tools in the menu bar section. Select Mobile Internet Settings from the drop down menu.
From the drop down menu, click on add custom profile to define your own network settings because Nigeria networks are not in the list of network listed there. Use the settings in the table below depending on the network of your choice.

Add Command

After inserting the settings for the network of your choice, click on the OK button to exit the small pop up screen and press the OK button again to exit Mobile Internet Settings configuration tab.

3. Go back to the menu, click on tools and after, click on start mobile internet. A warning will be out informing you that you will be charged, just click on connect. If you have already subscribed to a data plan, ignore the message. But if you haven’t subscribed to any data plan, you will be charge at a flat rate of 5 kobo per kb.

4. If you have correctly configured it as explained, you must be connected to the internet successfully. If you have been connected successfully to the internet, at the left side of your BlackBerry® Desktop Manager, you will see the time connected and number of data used. If you see something like that, that means you are connected to the internet so you can now browse.
